Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE, Teflon, in Russian - Ftoroplast)
PTFE is a white‑colored solid at room temperature, with a density of approximately 2.2 g/cm3 and a melting point of 327 °C. Its key properties remain largely unchanged over the temperature range from ‑73 °C to 204 °C, and its refractive index stays at around 1.43 across a relatively broad spectral band.

Owing to its high transparency in the 1‑7 μm spectral range, thin PTFE sheets are commonly used to fabricate IR polarizers. Such polarizers are less expensive than those made from crystalline materials, which enables their widespread deployment in IR polarization‑related applications.
