THz Isolator
Product Introduction
A terahertz isolator is a non‑reciprocal device featuring unidirectional transmittance. The broadband terahertz isolator developed by us is based on magneto‑optical media and requires no external magnetic field.
The terahertz isolator comprises two terahertz polarizers set at specific polarization directions and one magneto‑optical medium, which rotates the polarization state of the incident broadband terahertz beam by 45°.Its operating principle is as follows. The terahertz beam passes through the first polarizer and becomes linearly polarized. It then propagates through magnetized barium‑aluminum hexagonal ferrite. Due to the Faraday effect, the polarization state of the terahertz beam is rotated by 45°. The beam then travels through the second polarizer, which is oriented at a 45° angle with respect to the first polarizer. Accordingly, the polarization direction of the terahertz beam exiting the magneto‑optical medium exactly matches the analyzing axis of the second polarizer. When the identical terahertz beam is reflected back into the terahertz isolator, its polarization state is rotated by another 45°, rendering it orthogonal to the polarization axis of the first polarizer for incoming light and preventing beam transmittance. This constitutes the operating principle of the terahertz isolator.

The terahertz isolator can protect sensitive terahertz radiation sources from damage caused by back‑reflected waves. Furthermore, it can also reduce the noise level and provide optical isolation by blocking back‑reflections.
